Abstract
Ovine corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and sauvagine stimulated the secretion of somatostatin-like immunoactivity from dispersed cells of fetal rat brain maintained in long term cultures. Deamidated CRF and CRF-(10–41) were inactive. CRF-stimulated secretion was blocked by cobalt in a low calcium buffer and by tetrodotoxin. The data are consistent with an extracellular regulatory role for CRF within the central nervous system. Keywords
