Abstract
• The effect of vitrectomy on the severity and frequency of recurrent episodes of uveitis was studied in the rabbit model of protein-induced uveitis. Since the ciliary complex of the adult rabbit has distinctive anatomic features, the technical aspects of vitrectomy were first studied in the normal rabbit eye. We concluded that a lensectomy-vitrectomy could be best accomplished in the rabbit with the Peyman vitreophage through a transciliary body approach. Furthermore, postoperative inflammation was reduced by the preoperative administration of indomethacin (Indocin), as well as the use of Ringer's solution as the intraocular infusate. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
