Abstract
Specifically tritium labelled lysine-vasopressin, tyrosine2-3-T-lysine8-vasopressin was found to be suitable for the investigation of some aspects of the metabolic fate of neurohypophyseal hormones of the vasopressin type: Specific labelling at position 3 of the tyrosine aromatic ring allows of the detection of some of the primarily formed metabolites, whereas the metabolites formed secondarily (by the cleavage of non-labelled primary metabolites) are not detected. The hormone can be separated from the radioactive metabolites by thin-layer chromatography. After elution from chromatographic plates the approximate amounts of the unsplit hormone and of the labelled metabolites can be determined by the liquid scintillation technique.
