Abstract
The biochemical and physiologic aspects of vitamin B6 deficiency in animals and man are briefly discussed. A schematic diagram of the possible mechanisms producing the development of vitamin B6 deficiency in the intact animal is presented. The importance of adequate nutritional intake and vitamin B6 therapy is stressed. Particular reference is made to the existence of convulsive disorders and mental retardation in infants as symptoms of a congenital biochemical defect that may be corrected if recognized early and adequate treatment instituted. Keywords
