Abstract
Personnel of the Pennsylvania Division of Occupational Health began surveying for exposure to coal tar pitch volatiles at coke ovens in 1966. A routine of sampling procedure and method of analysis has been developed, and ten coke oven installations have been surveyed. Approximately 320 samples were collected with filters mounted in plastic holders attached to the workers' shirt collars, and an integrated sample of 3 to 6 hours was obtained. Samples were also collected at various fixed locations. The results of these surveys have been compiled to determine exposure levels of specific jobs and work situations. The report indicates that all exposures are in excess of the threshold limit value. Keywords
