Abstract
The current mental health needs demand that a closer look be taken into what constitutes and who should perform therapy with the emotionally disturbed. The psychiatric nurse given the attitude of commitment and caring is in a position to use her psychotherapeutic skills to restore, maintain and promote mental health. This paper explores the elements of nursing therapy including prerequisite philosophical attitudes and a methodology through which therapeutic goals may be formulated and pursued. It is postulated that if this therapeutic learning which is facilitated by a team effort is transferred to the individual's living situation his growth toward mental health will be enhanced. Keywords
