Dripping faucet apparatus with temperature and high-resolution timing and flow rate controls

Abstract
For the investigation of the chaotic dynamics of drop detachment from an orifice, a novel dripping faucet apparatus was constructed, and its design and use are described. It is equipped with high‐resolution timing (1 μs) and flow rate control (0.05%), and can be operated at different temperatures, and at constant as well as continuously varying flow rates. The last feature allows for the direct recording of the ‘‘dripping spectrum’’ (drop period versus flow rate) in a single run. Examples of results not obtainable with previous instruments are presented.
