Abstract
The hyperfine interaction in one-electron 16N ions recoiling into vacuum was observed through the perturbation of the ( alpha gamma ) angular correlation following the reaction 2H(18O, alpha )16N*. From the time dependence of this correlation, the g factor of the 1- level was deduced as mod g mod =1.83+or-0.13. The same experiment yielded a value for the lifetime of this state of tau m =6.5+or-0.5 ps.Keywords
