Abstract
Sternostoma tracheacolum n. sp. is descr. from the tracheal lining of cage canaries, S. Africa, having obvious ill effects on the health of the hosts. It appears most closely related to S. cryptorynchum, from the nasal cavities of the European sparrow, Passer domesticus. A fur-mite in Listrophoridae, PROLABIDOCARPUS canadensis, n. gen. and sp., is descr. from the muzzle hairs of the Canadian beaver, Castor canadensis. The subfamily Labidocarpinae Gunther is revised and enlarged by the addition of 3 new genera, Prolabidocarpus, Olabidocarpus, based on Labidocarous belsorum van Eyndhoven, and Eulabido-carpus, based on L. compressus Ewing. Ewing''s genus Alabidocarpus is adopted and keys to the genera and spp. of Labidocarpinae are given. Hypopial nymphs of Falculifer rostratus are recorded from the body cavity of the common pigeon in clusters near the jugular vein, S. Africa. Schizocoptes conjugatus is recorded from the fur of the golden mole, Bematiscus villosus dobsoni, S. Africa.
