Abstract
C. neoformans (5 .times. 106 yeast cells) was given per os to 10 pigeons (Columba livia) which were free (crops and excreta) of C. neoformans prior to experimentation. The yeast was recovered from the droppings of 9 pigeons the day after ingestion, but was still present in the droppings of 1 pigeon on the 22nd day after ingestion. The crop was more constantly positive and for a much longer time than the droppings (9 pigeons showed positive crop Cryptococcus on the 1st day and 2 were still positive at the 86th day.) C. neoformans can survive and be carried in the crop of pigeons. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
