CASE 53–1970Presentation of CaseA 74-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of renal failure.She had been well except for mild hypertension, found six years previously, for which no treatment was prescribed. One year before entry she was admitted to another hospital because of epigastric pain and postprandial heartburn; a gastrointestinal series was reported to show a gastric ulcer, and she was discharged on a bland diet and antacid, with relief of symptoms. Two months later peripheral edema developed and progressed in severity, with little response to diuretic medication. During the three months before entry nocturia occurred. . . .
