Abstract
Differential cross sections for the elastic scattering of protons by oxygen were measured at mean proton energies of 23.4, 24.5, 27.3, 30.1, 34.1, 36.8, 39.7, 43.1, and 46.1 MeV. The data cover center-of-mass scattering angles from 10 to 165 deg and have a relative uncertainty smaller than 2%. An oxygen gas target was bombarded with protons obtained, using the variable-energy extraction system of the UCLA sector-focused cyclotron. The scattered protons were detected, using an array of four NaI(Tl) scintillation counters. The results show the existence of strong resonances below 30 MeV which appreciably disort the monotonic energy variation found at the higher energies. The results have been compared with those obtained by other investigation in this energy region. Keywords
