Abstract
The symmetry species of almost all the i.r. and Raman-active vibrations of Magnus' green salt. [Pt(NH3)4][PtCl4], have been determined from experiments with oriented single crystals. An assignment is proposed, the most important feature being that the A2u lattice mode of the cation–anion chain is placed at 81 and not at 201 cm–1 as was previously suggested. The latter band is attributed to NH3 torsional motion. Keywords
