Abstract
Organized crime has been a major topic of debate in Australia for two decades. This paper discusses the role of organized crime as an issue in national and federal politics, and the history of investigations into this area of illicit enterprise. In examining changing theoretical and ideological interpretations of organized crime, particular attention will be given to the workings of bureaucratic politics and conflicts in Australian law enforcement. Keywords
