Abstract
The polarized absorption spectrum and Zeeman effect of Am3+ in LaCl3 has been studied from 2000 to 8000 A. In almost every instance the peaks or lines observed are sharp, completely polarized, and appear in definite groupings. For the particular point symmetry C3h forced electric‐dipole‐transitions are observed from 7F0 to the excited crystal‐field‐spilt sublevels μ=±2 and 3 of J levels greater than one. Keywords
