Abstract
In patients with pre- and postcapillary pulmonary hypertension, characteristic changes were observed that provide diagnostic clues in the interpretation of the lung scans. A concave area of decreased perfusion slightly above the left hilum and corresponding to an enlarged pulmonary outflow tract was observed in 65 per cent (19/29) of patients with precapillary pulmonary hypertension and 85 per cent (6/7) patients with postcapillary pulmonary hypertension. Increased relative blood flow to the upper halves of the lungs compared to the lower halves was observed in 17 and 57 per cent of the patients with pre- and postcapillary pulmonary hypertension, respectively. Focal perfusion defects were common in both groups. Keywords
