HPLC Preparative Group-Type Separation of Olefins from Synfuels

Abstract
A high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) technique has been established for preparatively isolating olefins as a group-type from synfuels and cracked petroleum fractions. Initially, a fraction consisting of saturates plus olefins is obtained. This fraction is then subdivided into a saturate portion and an olefin portion. This technique has been applied to shale oils, tar sands, and petroleum in both the mid-distillate (400–600°F) and gas oil boiling ranges (680–1000°F).
