Positive dromotropic effects of the vagus nerves on the canine atrioventricular node

Abstract
After muscarinic blockade with atropine, stimulation of the cervical vagal nerves produced increases in A-V nodal conduction velocity in the paced canine heart. This positive dromotropic activity was abolished by β-adrenergic blocking agents, indicating that the changes are produced by adrenergic fibres within the cervical vagal trunk.
