Abstract
Field growth rates and final growth form of U. fasciata raised from spores in 2 contrasting habitats at Oyster Bay, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, were studied. The seaweed was grown on planks of wood in calm-water and wave-exposed habitats for a period of 10 wk. The mean height attained was 166.6 .+-. 20.4 mm and 34.2 .+-. 2.6 mm in the 2 habitats, respectively. The Ulva plants in the calm-water habitat had erect growth habit whereas those from wave-exposed habitats were dwarf and rosette-like. Agronomic and taxonomic implications of the results were discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
