Resistance of various building materials to ozone deposition

Abstract
Experimental results are presented to show surface resistance of bricks, concrete and glass to ozone deposition. The experimental work has been carried out in a small stirred box and the resistances calculated from the half‐life of ozone in the box, assuming a first order decay process over the surfaces used. Over the surfaces examined r ranged from 200 s cm−1 for FEP Teflon to 0.4 s cm−1 for wet bricks. Experiments using the same box over grass give a range of results from 1.3 s cm−1 to 0.7 s cm−1 depending on the time of day, windspeed, solar radiation and other variables which affect stomatal behaviour. This compares with literature values of 5.9 to 0.5 s cm−1. (1,2)
