Abstract
By means of trisomic inheritance chromosome 9 (2d smallest) of the monoploid complement (n = 10) was associated with the genes of the c-sh-wx linkage group. A reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 8 and 9 afforded the means of determining the order of the genes. The translocation occurred close to the middle, of the long arm of chromosome 9 and near the spindle fiber insertion region on the long arm of chromosome 8 producing a long interchanged chromosome, 1, with the short arm and half of the long arm of chromosome 9 plus nearly all of the long arm of chromosome 8; and a short interchanged chromosome, i, possessing the short arm and a small section of the long arm of chromosome 8 plus the other half of the long arm of chromosome 9. The order of the genes from the interchange point on chromosome 9 was known from data of Burnham to be vfx-sh-c. 2n + 1 plants possessing I as the extra chromosome gave trisomic inheritance for. the genes wx, sh and c; 2n + l plant possessing i as the extra chromosome gave disomic inheritance for these genes. Therefore the order of these genes on chromosome 9, beginning at the middle of the long arm and running toward the end of the short arm, is wx-sh-c, respectively.
