Abstract
Data from the Harvard Growth Study on 60 boys and 60 girls organized into 6 samples representing 3 age levels, cohorts and 3 times of measurement were reanalyzed using sequential methods. Significant temporal effects were found which exceeded maturational growth and which impair generalizations from the study of age trends based upon data for a single cohort or single point in time. Since these effects were found for time and age intervals of 4 months it is felt that the problems raised here are likely to be even more serious for the study of longer time and age intervals.
