Assessing Behavioral Effects of In-Vehicle Information Systems

Abstract
The project described in this article concerns the effects of the operation of in-vehicle information systems on traffic safety. A method is described to track down potential safety effects within a relatively short period of time to support the authorities in the decision to deny or allow the system at hand on the market. Basically the method consists of 3 steps: a checklist, a laboratory test, and guidelines for a final empirical assessment of potential safety hazards.
