Abstract
Methods of specifying the state of polarization of a particle of spin 1 are discussed. Selection rules for polarization effects in simple nuclear reactions are derived; in general four parameters are needed to describe the deuteron polarization due to such reactions. Methods of determining these parameters include the use of magnetic deflection. A rough analysis is made of the polarization of deuterons scattered by carbon. Keywords
