Abstract
Anaesthetic services in one underdeveloped country are described. While regional anaesthesia is widely employed, the use of general anaesthesia would often be preferable if modern methods were adopted. There are few full-time anaesthetists and anaesthesia is usually supervised by general practitioners. It is therefore important that doctors working in these countries should have some specialist training. The implications of this are considered and techniques suited to the circumstances are discussed. A plea is made for a better understanding of the problems existing overseas and for a wider dissemination of up-to-date knowledge of anaesthesia. Keywords
