Abstract
From 9.6 kg. of fresh beef brain, 193 [mu]g. of coproporphyrin were obtained. This was crystallized as the tetramethyl ester and shown to be coproporphyrin III, melting at 146[degree]C. A much smaller amt. of ether-insoluble uro-type porphyrin was also isolated and found to have a melting point of 273-4[degree]C. Its Soret band max. was 404.5, as compared with a max. of 405.5 for uroporphyrin I.Keywords
