Abstract
To determine the toxicity of cellulose acetate sheets plasticized with diethyl phthalate when used to rear insects in cages, L. serricorne Fab. was used as the test insect. In large cages of 3312-cu. in volume where the ratio of plastic surface to cage volume is 1 sq. in. to 4.7 cu. in., no detrimental effects were noted. In small cages, petri dishes of 4.12 cu. in., in which the ratio of plastic surface to volume was 1 sq. in per .06 cu. in. and 1 sq. in per .13 cu. in., greater mortality of eggs and 1st instar larvae occurred with increasing amts. of plastic. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
