Abstract
Semiclassical path-integral methods are applied to the quantum-mechanical double-well potential at finite temperature. When all parameters are fixed and the quantum tunneling transitions which maintain the symmetry at zero temperature are absent. Classical thermal fluctuations, however, give transitions which partially disorder the system.
