Abstract
The concept of a parachute opening shock calculation is shown which is based on the simultaneous solution of the equation of motion and the continuity equation with numerical inputs concerning the development of the projected area and the inflow velocity. Several area-time and velocity-time functions were extracted from wind tunnel and field test data and used for calculating a variety of test cases for which force-time recordings were available. Keywords
