Efficient Algorithm for Optimal Control of Mixed-State Quantum Systems

Abstract
In this paper we present a generalization of a rapidly convergent iterative algorithm for optimal control of the expectation value of a positive definite observable for a pure-state quantum system due to Zhu and Rabitz. We generalize this algorithm using Liouville space theory so that it can be applied to optimal control of ensemble averages of arbitrary observables for mixed-state quantum systems.
