Antithetical Dominance in North American Maize

Abstract

Antithetical dominance is defined: "In hybrids between extremely diverse parents, natural selection will tend to encourage those modifiers favoring one parental extreme or the other and suppressing intermediates." Hence the reaction curve for such hybrids will be rectangular instead of the usual gently diagonal one.
