Abstract
Low income neighbourhoods across the developed and developing world face major problems. Five case studies, from the U.S., EC and India, are described which highlight the potential and difliculties presented for governments and communities in extending housing-related work into local economic regeneration. Housing, it is argued, provides a significant community asset which can be a catalyst for wider community economic development. Keywords
