Abstract
A case of a woman [being treated for manic-depressive illness] with severe Li toxicity and hypothyroidism with persistent hyponatremia and hypokalemia is presented. The mechanisms of the development of Li toxicity by alterations in fluid and Na metabolism, including those induced by Li itself, are reviewed. The possibility that hypothyroidism may have been a significant determinant in the development of this case of Li toxicity is considered and discussed. This is of special interest given that Li can induce hypothyroidism. In addition, the safe reinstitution of Li prophylaxis in this woman can be reported. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
