Abstract
The effectiveness of drugs applied topically to the teeth for caries and to the gingivae for periodontal disease depends on maintenance of adequate concentration for sufficient time. Hamsters which develop these diseases can be used to assess the therapeutic effect of various agents, and theroplastic vinyl mouthpieces can be used to hold drugs in contact with the teeth and gingival tissues. Mouth pieces have been made by drawing with a vacuum thin sheets of warm vinyl over a plastic cast of a hamster maxilla. Medicaments are placed in the applicators and applied 2-5 minutes, 5 days/week, to the maxillary teeth and soft tissues of immobilized by unanesthetized animals. Keywords
