Abstract
A large number of numerical calculations on the collapse and fragmentation of rotating interstellar gas clouds are presented. The initial conditions chosen can be parameterized by their rotational and thermal energies; the calculations covered the entire parameter space available. Collapses from higher thermal energies fragmented through a bar-like mode, whereas collapses from lower thermal energies led to a strong ring-like wave from the axis; the latter collapses fragmented through non-axisymmetric instabilities of a higher wavenumber.
