Suitability of Certain Heliothis (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) as Hosts for the Parasite Cardiochiles nigriceps1,2,3

Abstract
Cardiochiles nigriceps Viereck is an important parasite of Heliothis virescens (F.) (Chamberlin and Tenhet 1926, Grayson 1944, Lewis and Brazzel 1968, Neunzig 1963, Snow et al. 1966.) C. nigriceps is distributed throughout southern and southeastern North America and is primarily associated with H. virescens on most of its host plants; however, Lewis et al. (1967) reported that the parasite was reared from a small percent of H. subflexa (Guenée) collected from ground cherry, Physalis spp. Lewis and Brazzel (1966) showed that H. zea (Boddie) meets all requirements as a host except suitability for the parasite's development, and Lewis and Vinson (1968) studied the immunological relationships between H. zea and this parasite.
