Abstract
Evidence is presented for photolysis of the C—C bond in nine 1 : 1-difluoro- or 1 : 1-dichloroethylenes, and their photochemistry is discussed in relation to the low-lying electronic states. CCl was observed on flash photolyzing five 1 :1-dichloroethylenes, and is probably formed by secondary photolysis of CCl2. Approximate rate constants at 300 K for the reaction of CCl with olefins are (109 M–1 s–1): 4, (CF2CCl2); 8, (CFClCCl2); 4, (CHClCCl2); 10, (C2Cl4); and 0.8 (C2H4)(± 50 %).Keywords
