Abstract
The cavity approximation to the bag model is used to calculate the masses of the new hadrons in models which explain the resonances in terms of new quark flavors. The charmed-quark scheme and Harari's six-quark scheme are considered in detail. Difficulties associated with gluon interactions and with the interpretation of the are also discussed.
