Abstract
Histamine concentration in cattle blood determined by the fluorimetric method of Shore, Burkhalter, and Cohn reveals values of 0.15-0.20 [mu]g/ml. Both normal parturient cows and cows receiving an antigen consisting of heat-killed E. coli were followed. No trends in histamine occurred associated with the intra-mammary antigen infusion, but samples taken on the day of calving were significantly lower than those during the weeks just before calving. The histamine concentration of young calves was lowest on the day of birth (0.151 [mu]g/ml), highest on the day after birth (0.227 [mu]g/ml), becoming lower at 1-3 weeks of age (ca 0.176 [mu]g/ml).This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
