Dielectric second virial coefficient of polar gases and their binary mixtures

Abstract
An attempt has been made to interpret the second dielectric virial coefficient of (CH3)2O and the interaction virial coefficient of the polar gas mixtures CHF3+(CH3)2O by using the series expansion method of Buckingham and Pople. For the pure component (CH3)2O the agreement between experimental and calculated values of Bε is fairly satisfactory as had been previously obtained for CHF3. For the mixture, reasonably good agreement between experimental and calculated values of Bε12 has been obtained only by varying the force parameters widely from their respective combination rule values. The calculation of energy of pairing shows that hydrogen bonding probably plays a very important role in this system, in agreement with the suggestion of Barnes and Sutton.
