Abstract
The McVoy-Fano theory of the connection between the atomic photoelectric effect and the high-frequency region of the bremsstrahlung spectrum has been extended to next order in . The contribution from states is determined and is important in heavy elements. Predictions for the high-frequency limit are in reasonable agreement with experiment. Information is also obtained concerning angular distributions and polarization correlations.
