Abstract
The simple equation p〈vi〉/kT= 1, where 〈vi〉 is the volume of an average cavity (a region where another particle can be inserted without overlapping the hard core of an existing particle), is shown to be valid for a system of hard rods with an arbitrary nearest-neighbour attraction or repulsion outside the hard core. Keywords
