Abstract
This paper addresses in a conceptual way the criteria for modelling nanoelectronics. Model domains and property domains are introduced and discussed, and their interdependences are addressed and put into a framework. The validity of a model domain is coupled to inter‐property domain and intra‐property domain scale conditions. These in turn depend on the chosen physical phenomena for information processing. The relations are visualized in the figures. The generalized concepts, global and local, play an important role in this discussion. The situation for nanoelectronics and SET circuits, in particular, is further elaborated. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.Keywords
