Abstract
Biofeedback training involves electromyographic recording of the patient's level of facial muscle tension with concurrent presentation of that level to the patient in a visual or auditory manner. The objective of biofeedback training in patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction is to provide them with an insight into abnormal facial muscle activities, which include clenching and grinding of the teeth and lip‐ and cheek‐biting habits. This insight coupled with relaxation programs affords the patient an opportunity to eliminate abnormal behavior patterns that foster temporomandibular joint symptomatology. Keywords
