Abstract
In recent years, interest in jaundice has been largely transferred from the color of the skin and the presence or absence of bile pigment in the urine and feces to the changes occurring in the blood serum, much in the same way that physicians have become concerned with the urea content of the blood in nephritis, and with the concentration of blood sugar in cases of diabetes mellitus. The introduction of new and more delicate methods for the detection and estimation of bilirubin in the serum is responsible for this change in point of view.
