Terminal Phenomena Associated With Massive Doses of X-Rays

Abstract
Adult guinea pigs were irradiated with 25,000 r over the whole body or locally over the head, trunk, or hind quarters. All animals showed progressive bradycardia and hypothermia. All showed similar neurological symptoms and electroencephalographic changes. Changes in the central nervous system are predominant. These are subcortical and apparently not a result of direct damage to brain tissue by X-radiation. Blood cytology and chemistry failed to reveal any significant changes.
