Abstract
SUPPURATION occurring in the spinal epidural space is an uncommon though well-known entity in adults and older children.1-3On the other hand, only very few cases have been reported in children below 5 years of age. Only four patients under 1 year of age are known,4-7although not a single patient in this age range has been operated upon successfully. The purpose of this paper is to report a 5-week-old infant with this disease. The disease was surgically corrected with apparent complete recovery. Report of a Case A 30-day-old white female infant was admitted on Sept 29, 1966. She had not moved her legs well since that morning. Her past medical history was noncontributory. She was the first-born child of healthy parents. The mother's pregnancy and delivery had been normal. The child's weight was 3,250 gm at birth and her condition was good.
