Abstract
There have been few studies of the central projection of the sensory fibres of the recurrent laryngeal nerve into the medulla oblongata. In the present study terminal degeneration was observed in both the nucleus of the tractus solitarius and the nucleus of the spinal tract of the trigeminal nerve after transection of the nerve and after injection of a lectin, Ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA). Degeneration was observed to be more extensive after RCA injection than after nerve transection. In both instances, however, degeneration was observed bilaterally.Keywords
