Abstract
Transfusions of blood from patients undergoing treatment for pernicious anemia and with maximum reticulocvte response into untreated pernicious anemia patients resulted in an increase in the recipient''s reticulocvte count which persisted for 45-50 hours. This time was reduced when the recipient was undergoing treatment for pernicious anemia. Absence of a maturation factor is suggested to explain the reticulocyte accumulation upon treatment. Formation of this maturation factor is suggested when the reticulocytes begin to decrease in number.
