Abstract
The conc. of free and combined cholesterol in xanthomas obtained from a 58 yr. old patient was detd. by the method of Windaus. The total cholesterol varied between about 12 and 20% of the dry wt. of the tissues, while the free cholesterol varied between 6 and 16% of the dry wt. Oleic, and probably palmitic and stearic acid esters of cholesterol were present. The cholesterol conc. in the blood of the patient reached a level of 750 mg. %.
